Looking ahead in 2015

Look ahead, not behind. Don't dwell on the past, but reference it for the future.

I am really not one usually to make resolutions, as I think it's an arbitrary line in the sand that people keep telling themselves in the new year I will do this and that, but for now I will continue my bad ways.  Don't get me wrong, I think having goals are great, it's more the delay of executing, that bothers me.  I sadly have fallen into that category many times, including now.

Lots of people take lots time and reflect on the past year, take notes, I tend not to do that.  I keep a quick mental note of things that I did well, and things that I did not, but it has never consumed me. It's one of those things that probably makes me less stressed.

Call me a hypocrite, but I am jumping on the new year's resolution bandwagon. There is the obligatory be healthier, better husband, better family member... but that stuff you should just really do!

Professional

  • Javascript: Maybe it's more relearn JavaScript. Once upon a time I was an excellent JavaScript programmer, pushing boundaries setting the pace. My professional path has led me away from it, and now it seems to be the wave of the future. My current company Starry, has chosen nodejs as the server technology of choice and I am excited to jump into it.
  • Growth: My career has pushed me in many directions, a coder, a mentor, a manager, a mediator... If I am not being challenged, then I am settling and being lazy. New roles are scary, but scary is good. If 2014 taught me anything, it's go beyond your comfort zone, you will struggle, you will get lost, but ultimately you will be better.

Personal

  • Blog: Let's call this one that I am ahead of the game, since launching on the December the 8th I have had a steady flow, and just have to continue that trend.
  • Photography: Something else that I have started to get into again.  I have always loved it, but somehow it has fallen aside.  I will the blog and instagram to keep up posting.  While I have a plethora things from the past, I hope to bring out the lens and start to shoot more.
  • Plan a trip: After marriage, I have heavily relied on trips just falling into place. I take things as they come and decide last minute. Unfortunately the world does not work that solely that way, and will take up some of the slack.

Lastly, something that spans both categories is balance. In order to either good, you need to draw some boundaries and make sure you give both the equality they deserve.
